Whether you’re a parent, a practitioner, or just curious about how life experience shapes leadership in tech, this is a session you won’t want to miss.
In this episode of Bring a Hacker to Work Day, (BAHTWD) we meet Andre Boone, a cybersecurity rising star whose path began on the front lines as a Cavalry Scout in the U.S. military. From gathering intelligence under pressure to mastering digital reconnaissance, Andre has transformed battlefield precision into cyber defense strategy. Now continuing his education, Andre leverages frameworks like NIST, network monitoring, and ethical hacking to uncover vulnerabilities and build resilient systems. Driven by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a commitment to excellence, he exemplifies how discipline, adaptability, and a mission-focused mindset can redefine what’s possible in cybersecurity. Tune in to hear how military reconnaissance turned into digital protection, what it means to uphold the highest standards in an evolving threat landscape, and how passion meets purpose in Andre Boone’s journey from soldier to cybersecurity professional.
This installment of Bring a Hacker to Work Day (BAHTWD) features Andy Rogers, a Lead Senior Associate at Schellman and a seasoned cybersecurity professional with over 20 years of industry experience.
Based in Indianapolis, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge shaped by a diverse career spanning health insurance, nuclear energy production, government contracting, IT services, and tactical aircraft manufacturing. Before joining Schellman in 2021, he served as a Cyber Security Consultant for a government aeronautics company, where he specialized in securing cutting-edge technologies including UAVs, satellites, and systems undergoing FedRAMP audits.
Today, Andy focuses primarily on FedRAMP assessments, supporting organizations across a wide range of industries as they navigate complex compliance and cloud security requirements. His deep expertise and commitment to advancing cybersecurity make him an invaluable voice for anyone interested in understanding the pathways, challenges, and opportunities within the field.
Attendees will gain firsthand insight into Andy’s professional journey, learn what a “day in the life” of a cybersecurity assessor looks like, and discover practical tips for breaking into and thriving within the industry.
